Electric Truck Showdown 2024: GMC Hummer EV Pickup vs. Ford F-150 Lightning and the Tesla Cybertruck

Electric vehicles (EVs) are revolutionizing the auto industry, and nowhere is this transformation more exciting than in the realm of electric trucks. For eco-conscious consumers and early adopters of EV technology, the choice of which electric truck to invest in can be a daunting one, but how do they compare against each other? GMC Hummer EV Pickup Key Features Range: Up to 381 miles per charge Price: Starting at $98,845 Towing Capacity: Up to 11,500 pounds Acceleration: 0-60 mph in around 3 seconds (1,000-hp tri-motor variant) CrabWalk: Four-wheel steering system for diagonal movement Charging: Access to GM's Ultium Charge 360 network The GMC Hummer EV Pickup is a beast in the world of EV trucks, offering unparalleled road presence and remarkable off-road agility. The CrabWalk feature allows for diagonal driving at low speeds, making it incredibly maneuverable in tough terrains. With a tri-motor variant boasting 1,000 horsepower, this truck isn’t just about looks—it’s about sheer performance. Plus, it offers an impressive 381-mile range, which outperforms several competitors. The Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving feature further enhances the Hummer EV's appeal. Available on more than 400,000 miles of pre-mapped roads across North America, it offers both highway and secondary road compatibility. Ford F-150 Lightning Key Features Range: 240-320 miles per charge Price: Starting at $65,090 Towing Capacity: Up to 10,000 pounds Acceleration: 0-60 mph in around 4 seconds (Extended-range battery) BlueCruise: Hands-free driving aid Functional Frunk: 14.1 cubic feet of storage with multiple outlets The Ford F-150 Lightning brings the trusted legacy of the F-Series into the electric age. It may not have the extreme off-road capabilities of the Hummer, but it's far more affordable and highly functional. The BlueCruise system, although covering a smaller range of roads than Super Cruise, offers smooth hands-free driving. One standout feature is the Functional Frunk, providing significant storage space and multiple power outlets, making it a practical choice for daily utility and work. Tesla Cybertruck Key Features Range: 340-470 miles per charge Price: Starting at $79,990 Towing Capacity: Up to 14,000 pounds Acceleration: 0-60 mph in around 2.9 seconds (3-motor variant) Supercharger Network: Extensive and reliable Lockable Cargo Bed: Roller-shutter tonneau cover The Tesla Cybertruck is perhaps the most polarizing of the bunch, with its futuristic design and impressive specs. It offers the most extensive driving range, particularly with the range-extending battery pack, though this comes at the cost of bed volume. The Cybertruck also benefits from Tesla's well-established Supercharger network, ensuring you’re never far from a quick charge. While it may not suit everyone’s aesthetic tastes, its performance capabilities and extensive range make it a formidable competitor. Uncover the Power of the Hummer EV on Your Next Adventure When it comes to selecting the perfect electric truck, each option offers its own distinct advantages. Stop on Red Week: Promoting Safety at Intersections

Intersection crashes are among the most dangerous traffic incidents, often leading to severe injuries and fatalities. To raise awareness and promote safe driving, National Stop on Red Week takes place every year during the first week of August. This initiative serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of obeying traffic signals and highlights the devastating consequences of running red lights. The History and Importance of Stop on Red Week National Stop on Red Week was established by the Federal Highway Administration (FHA) in 1995 to educate the public about the severity of traffic collisions and the role of traffic signals in preventing accidents. The first stop sign appeared in Detroit in 1915, and by the late 1920s, the familiar red background and octagon shape were standardized to minimize confusion and ensure clear communication to drivers. The statistics are alarming. In 2016 alone, 808 people were killed, and 137,000 were injured due to drivers running red lights. Between 2008 and 2021, an estimated 11,296 people lost their lives in crashes related to red-light running. These numbers underscore the critical need for initiatives like Stop on Red Week to remind drivers of their responsibility to follow traffic signals. Why Stop on Red Week is Crucial Traffic signals are not mere suggestions; they are vital control mechanisms that keep intersections safe. Stop on Red Week emphasizes its role in preventing accidents and saving lives by teaching the dangers of reckless driving. Ignoring red lights and stop signs can lead to catastrophic accidents, highlighting the importance of controlled speed and direction at intersections to make roads safer for everyone. While most drivers know basic traffic laws, their significance can sometimes be forgotten, making Stop on Red Week a crucial refresher that underscores why these rules exist and their life-saving impact. Advanced Car Safety Features Modern technology has brought forth a range of advanced safety features aimed at preventing accidents, particularly at intersections. Here’s a closer look at some of the most effective features related to automatic emergency braking: Blind Spot Detection: Alerts drivers to vehicles in their blind spots, helping prevent side-impact collisions. Forward Collision Warning: Monitors the road ahead and warns drivers of potential collisions, giving them time to react. Brake Assist: Boosts braking power during emergency stops, reducing stopping distances. Adaptive Cruise Control: Automatically adjusts speed to maintain a safe distance from the car ahead, now a standard feature in many new vehicles. Lane Keeping Assist: Helps drivers stay in their lane by providing corrective steering when needed. These features work together to enhance safety and minimize the risk of accidents caused by human error. Be Safe This August with New Safety Features National Stop on Red Week is a crucial campaign that underscores the importance of following traffic signals and the dangers of reckless driving. This week-long initiative strives to decrease intersection-related accidents and save lives by promoting safe driving habits, raising public awareness, and encouraging the use of advanced vehicle safety features. At Casa Buick GMC of El Paso, we are proud to offer Buick and GMC vehicles with some of the best safety features currently on the market. Independent of what type of vehicle you are looking for, our cars offer rear camera mirrors and following distance indicator features in most new models. Trade in your outdated car today and upgrade to ensure your safety this Stop on Red week!

Three Iconic GMC Trucks to Honor Car Collector Appreciation Day

Americans have been crazy for cars since the first horseless carriage was displayed. On Car Collector Appreciation Day this July 12 th, we look at some of the most unique classic GMC trucks to date! Which ones are your favorites? The  GMC 150 Early pickup trucks started out as modified cars, but post-World War II, they evolved into larger and more robust models. These vehicles were designed to handle heavier loads, serving the needs of suburban and rural communities as well as recreational activities such as camping. The stylish trucks were equipped with an 85 horsepower, 228 cubic inch inline six-cylinder engine, a four-speed manual transmission, and four-wheel hydraulic brakes, making them ideal for tough tasks. The 1949 GMC 150 was not just a workhorse; it also boasted shining chrome front and rear bumpers, a heater/defroster, and optional eye-catching two-tone paint schemes, combining functionality with style. Today, it remains a favorite among car collectors, offering a significant return on investment for restoration enthusiasts. 1991 GMC Syclone At the time of its production debut, the 1991 GMC Syclone was named the fastest stock pickup truck in the world, boasting a 0 to 60 of 4.3 seconds. With a 4.3L turbocharged V6 engine, automatic transmission, and an AWD driveline, the Syclone was made for speed. It was also the first production truck to receive a 4-wheel anti-lock braking system. Only 2,998 Syclones were ever built, making this scarce jewel incredibly rare to collectors everywhere. This fine vehicle is a great example of a high-performance vehicle that set new standards in speed, power, and driving experience. 1991 GMC Sierra 2500 “Everything you want in a full-size pickup and a whole lot more”. The 1991 GMC Sierra 2500 was a rugged vehicle with impressive features for the time. Power door locks and windows, a striking luxurious custom vinyl seat in garnet among other colors, and dual-zone climate control were much coveted features not yet widely available. Under the hood, the truck offered a base engine putting out 200 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. The biggest of three available gasoline units, a 6.0-liter V8 growled at 300 hp and 355 lb-ft. of torque. Its striking side-line design and power make the 1991 GMC Sierra 2500 a collector's must-have in 2024. Just like the new 2025 Sierra 2500HD will continue to push the envelope of pickup truck power and further the legacy of the classic GMC truck. What To Do When Your Engine Overheats

As we reach the last weeks of May, the dog days of summer are right around the corner, and the El Paso heat is about to unleash its full might. June is the hottest month of the year for our area with a blistering 96-degree average temperature. As such, it’s time to make the necessary preparations to ensure your vehicle can beat the heat. The moment your car begins to overheat can be scary, and the aftermath is frightening in its own way. An overheated engine can cause severe damage to your vehicle. It can also suddenly strand you in the middle of nowhere with triple-digit temperatures baring down on you. Today, Casa Buick GMC examines signs that signify overheating and the procedures you should follow if your engine does overheat. Watch for the Signs Your engine often communicates with you through uncommon, non-verbal sounds to let you know that maintenance is required. Therefore, it's able to convey several warning signs when it begins to overheat. Watch for any of these four signs that your engine is overheating: Steam resembling smoke seeping out from under the hood. An unusual, sweet smell emanating from the engine. The engine temperature gauge needle spikes towards the red. The “Check Engine” light or a comparable indicator flashes on. Steps to Take When Your Engine Overheats 1. Turn Off the Air Conditioner and Turn Up the Heat Yes, this sounds wildly counterintuitive – but it’s the first thing you should immediately do upon sensing your engine overheating. Shutting off the air conditioning helps reduce stress on the engine, while turning up the cabin's heat helps divert heat away from the engine. 2. Keep Calm, Find a Spot to Pull Over, & Shut the Engine Off When in the midst of such a sudden, unsettling moment, the most important thing to remember is not to panic. Your brand-new Buick Encore GX is not about to imminently explode; by panicking, you’re only putting yourself at greater risk of making a mistake and causing costly damage. Continue to drive slowly until you find a safe spot to pull over. Once parked, shut off the engine and check the temperature gauge, which should begin moving back into a normal range as the engine cools down. 3. Determine Your Plan of Action Here is a good example of why you should have your phone charged before setting off on any drive. You need to get your vehicle to a nearby garage – ideally our top-of-the-line Service Department, though it will depend on your location. Contact your preferred roadside assistance provider and get your vehicle towed, if necessary. If your engine has cooled and you believe you can get it to the nearest repair shop yourself, carefully restart the engine and resume driving. As you do, continue to monitor the temperature gauge. If it begins rising again, pull over and allow the system to cool once more. Put Your Engine in the Hands of Casa Buick GMC You’ve dealt with your overheated engine properly, but there’s still the question of why it overheated in the first place. There are several factors that could have caused your vehicle to overheat; a cooling system leak, faulty water pump, or low engine oil level are all possible culprits. To keep your engine running smoothly throughout the summer, schedule your service at Casa Buick GMC. Our team of factory-trained technicians will diagnose your engine, in addition to providing oil changes, brake service, battery replacements, and more. This summer, don't allow persistent car problems to get you heated; instead, put your vehicle in the reliable hands of Casa Buick GMC.

Celebrate the End of National Car Care Month

April is National Car Care Month, and we know what you’re probably thinking: why? It can be easy to forget, but outside of the El Paso area, most of the country has to trudge through long, cumbersome winters. Thus, April has become the designated time to recoup after the winter, handling any maintenance issues that may have gone ignored and making sure your vehicle is set for the rainy season ahead. Although we don’t have to deal with as many issues as elementally-challenged car owners in the north and northeast, stormy weather is still right around the corner. That makes April the ideal month to inspect each component of your car, ensuring it’s in top shape for the year ahead. For your convenience, Casa Buick GMC presents this handy checklist of everything you should take care of as April winds to a close. 1. Check and/or Replace Your Tires Our tires thankfully don’t get wrecked by winter weather, where each 10-degree drop can cause their air pressure to lose a full PSI. Nevertheless, checking the state of your tires is an appropriate way to kick off National Car Care Month. You should get your tires aligned at least once a year – which the trained technicians at our Service Department can handle for you.  Check your air pressure to make sure your tires are at their optimal PSI, as indicated by the sticker inside your driver’s door. Lastly, check the wear on your treads; if they’re exhibiting significant wear or damage, we’ll help you find a perfect set of new tires for your vehicle. 2. Check Your Brakes You should check your tires so you can get where you want to be. Conversely, you should inspect your brakes to prevent winding up where you don’t want to be. If you hear any squealing, squeaking, or other unusual, high-pitched noises emanating from your brakes, it’s time to schedule your service immediately. Squealing brakes are most likely a sign that your brake pads are thinning. Your brakes’ rotors, linings, and drums should all be thoroughly inspected. An ideal time to do this is during every oil change. Speaking of... 3. Get Your Oil Changed It used to be that every 3,000 miles was the standard checkpoint to change your oil. Thanks to modern lubricants (who said technology was good for nothing?), that number has shifted to intervals of 5,000-7,500 miles. (That number can climb significantly higher if your car’s engine requires full-synthetic oil.) Although it’s convenient to have to change our oil less frequently, it also makes us more susceptible to forgetting about it altogether. Get in the habit of making April your regular time of year for a standard oil change. 4. Refill All Other Fluids Your car is thirsty by nature, and it takes more than motor oil to satisfy it. Check your brake fluid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, coolant, and windshield washer fluid, refilling them to their recommended levels. As the heat intensifies this summer and storms develop, these various fluids will be vital to both your car's health and your personal safety. 5. Clean Your Car It’s spring-cleaning season – an exercise that shouldn’t be limited to your home. Give your car a thorough wash to relieve it from all this dry air. If you take it to one of our local car washes – such as El Paso’s Splash N’ Dash – be sure to take advantage of any available vacuums, cleaning out all the dirt and debris that might have accumulated over the past few months.
