It’s that time of year again. The Texas temperatures have dropped (a little) and fall is at our doorstep. Time to celebrate the spooky season. El Paso loves Halloween and so do we. There are a lot of great events happening this year, and these are just some of the ones we are looking forward to. The Sundown Walk with the Spirits Cemetery Crawl at Concordia Cemetry is a fun way to enjoy an evening of spooky tales and entertainment. There’ll be a shootout reenactment followed by stories about the “residents” of the cemetery like famous gunslinger John Wesley Hardin. The event happens on October 15th at the Concordia Cemetry. 1st Avenue Artisan Market Finish up your decorations with time to spare at the 1st Avenue Artisan Market. Opening on the 16th, 23rd, and 30th at 798 First Avenue, this market will have loads of unique Halloween and fall-themed items for your celebration. While you’re there, visit the local food trucks to refuel and keep shopping. The event is kid friendly and includes trick or treating and a haunted house in partnership with the Dungeons and Cloud Tour 2022. Future Engineers 5k and 1-mile Walk What do you need to get ready for a long night of trick or treating? Conditioning. Get in shape for the Future Engineers 5k and 1-mile walk on October 29th, and you’ll be ready to canvas the streets for all that candy come October 31st. The event includes a Halloween costume contest, so you can test your outfit for the big night under extreme walking conditions. Proceeds from the event benefit the El Paso chapter of TSPE. Halloween Monster Bash Join the fun at Cielo Vista Mall on Halloween Eve (October 30th) for a family-friendly fun time. Halloween Monster Bash by El Paso Farmers Market will feature all your favorites, from trick-or-treating for the kids to multiple costume contests. You can visit the yummy food vendors, decorate a pumpkin, and enjoy performances by local artisans. Perhaps the scariest of all: Karaoke Hour! So be sure to join the fun! Who doesn’t love a great park? They allow us to unwind, rest, play, and be free with grass underfoot and trees overhead. Thankfully, El Paso has numerous parks throughout the city for all to use. Casa Buick GMC wants to highlight a few of our city’s great parks; let’s have a look. more Memorial Park, one of El Paso's largest community parks, is centrally located in a historic district, well kept, vast, green, and mostly serene.  Its hilly layout makes for a good workout when walking or running. The park is ideal for picnics. Memorial Park has illuminated tennis courts, an aquatics center, and a children's playground. Manhattan Heights Spray Park at Salvador Rivas Jr Park is one of eight spray (water/splash) parks operated by the City, open from mid-April through the end of October. It’s a great place to spend a day outside as your little ones play. Free sunscreen dispensers are on site. The area where the spray park is based is great for picnics, with plenty of trees and shade. Volleyball courts are a bonus! Eastview Veterans Park seems to have it all: an indoor basketball facility, indoor pool, pickle ball courts, baseball field, skate park, lots of space, and mature trees; there’s even a childcare center! Northeast El Paso Travis White Park is a beautiful park, a hidden gem with rolling hills, generous shade, flowers, an interesting wagon art installation, and a newly-remade canopy-covered playground. There’s a disc golf course, too! Eastwood Heights Tom Lea Upper Park has sweeping mountain and city views. Tom Lea Lower Park was recently redone, with a modern, interactive shaded playground with a zip line for older kids. It also features a shaded picnic area. Our local favorite is Desert Oak Barbecue. A more recent addition to the El Paso food scene, Desert Oak opened in 2015 and rapidly became a local favorite. What makes it special? As the name suggests, Desert Oak is fueled by oak sourced from central Texas, cooked with a steady heat, using only prime beef. The result is some of the best barbecue we’ve tasted and we think you’ll agree. You’ll find them on 1320 North Zaragosa. Tony's Burrito House & Mexican Food has excellent Mexican food at very good prices. This drive-thru at 1410 Vanderbilt Drive features food that tastes like it was made by your abuela. Really! Service is relaxed so the restaurant is better suited when you want a quick meal instead of fast food, but those extra few minutes are well worth the wait. Try the enchiladas with rice and beans. For heavenly, foodie aromas, the quaint dining room is the spot when you have a few extra minutes. Family-owned and locally operated, Carnitas Queretaro has four locations for fresh and authentic Mexican cuisine to go. The small chain sources local products to create dishes developed from original Bordier family recipes. While it has served handcrafted dishes to El Paso for two decades, the family opened its first eatery in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico in 1985. Here are just a few of our favorite burger bites from around town! more Rosco’s Burger Inn This is one Inn you’ll never want to leave! Rosco’s Burger Inn has been serving up mouthwatering burgers since 1955. These are classic diner burgers, served up hot and fresh. You can customize your burger with cheese, bacon, jalapeños, chili beans, and even a weenie (hot dog)! If you find yourself with a serious appetite, go for the Everything Burger. It comes with, well, just about everything on the menu piled onto a bun! West Texas Chophouse Who says burgers can’t be classy? West Texas Chophouse is a classic steakhouse with some seriously great burgers. The West TX Burger is a traditional steakhouse burger, while the Mac & Cheese Burger is a little more out there with mac and cheese and crispy onion strings. If you want the ultimate burger experience, go for Alejandro’s Favorite Burger. With a patty made from sirloin, beef short rib, and brisket and topped up with caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, and their house-made secret sauce, it just might be your favorite too. Burger Bros At Casa Buick GMC we’re all about family, and so are the Burger Bros. This family-owned and operated business cooks up some awesome burgers. The Bro Burger is your standard burger with classic fixins and their special Bro Sauce, while their specialty burgers go in some less traditional directions.
