2027 GMC Sierra 1500 vs. 2027 Ford F-150: Which Truck Fits El Paso?

El Paso truck shoppers keep coming back to the same short list: the Chevrolet Silverado, the Ford F-150 and the GMC Sierra. CarEdge's October 2026 El Paso rankings put all three among the top ten new vehicles sold in the city over the prior 45 days, and the Sierra was the one gaining: CarEdge shows its sales up 45% while the Silverado and F-150 were roughly flat.

Both trucks are updated for 2027. GMC has redesigned the Sierra 1500, and Ford has refreshed the F-150 with a new base engine and hands-free towing. This page compares what each maker has published so far. We don't list prices here. See our inventory or call us for current pricing.

What are El Paso truck shoppers looking for?

Start with what shoppers here are actually doing. Full-size pickups are among El Paso's best-selling new vehicles, and the Silverado, F-150 and Sierra are the three most shopped. Our own inventory search also highlights the features Texas shoppers look for most: Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a rearview camera, a sunroof, keyless ignition and a heated steering wheel.

Here is how the 2027 Sierra 1500 lines up with that list:

  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: GMC's new interface integrates both with the truck's own features. The F-150 also supports them, so the difference comes down to the rest of the truck.
  • Rearview camera: an HD rear vision camera is standard, and an available camera suite offers up to 19 views, including Hitch View and underbody cameras.
  • Sunroof: a panoramic sunroof is standard on the AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate, and available on the Elevation.
  • Heated and ventilated seats: 12-way power heated and ventilated front seats are standard on the AT4 and Denali, and the Denali Ultimate adds massage.

How do the engines compare?

2027 GMC Sierra 1500 2027 Ford F-150
Standard engine 2.7L TurboMax: 350 hp, 455 lb-ft 3.0L EcoBoost V6: 325 hp, 400 lb-ft
Gas V8 5.7L: 402 hp, 428 lb-ft. 6.6L: 481 hp, 501 lb-ft 5.0L: 400 hp, 410 lb-ft
Diesel Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel: 305 hp, 495 lb-ft Not offered
Max towing (properly equipped) Up to 13,500 lb (5.7L V8, 4WD Double Cab, with the available Max Trailering Package) Up to 13,500 lb (3.5L EcoBoost V6, 4x4)

GMC says the 6.6L is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class and that the TurboMax delivers best-in-class standard torque, based on GM's competitive data. Paired with the available 34-gallon tank, the Duramax diesel offers more than 900 miles of GM-estimated highway range. EPA ratings are not yet available. Ford also offers a PowerBoost hybrid and high-output and Raptor engines that the Sierra 1500 does not.

Ratings are the maximums GMC and Ford have published for 2027 models. They vary by cab, drivetrain, axle and equipment. Compare the specific truck.

How do the technology and hands-free systems compare?

The 2027 Sierra introduces GM's new user interface. Every trim gets a 16.3-inch center touchscreen and a 12.2-inch driver display, with Google built-in, Google Gemini and over-the-air updates. The F-150 comes with a 12-inch SYNC 4 center screen as standard.

Compatible roads GM has said its network is about 750,000 miles. Check GMC's map. Ford says more than 130,000 miles of divided highways. Check Ford's map.

Each maker counts compatible roads differently. Super Cruise and BlueCruise work only on compatible roads and do not replace attentive driving. See our Super Cruise page for how it works.

For towing, the Sierra also offers an in-vehicle Trailering app, Hitch View and a transparent-trailer camera view, and GMC lists an industry-first available Trailer Brake Gain Assistant.

What helps in El Paso heat and long highway miles?

  • Ventilated seats. Standard on the AT4, Denali and Denali Ultimate, so the driver's seat is cooler in summer.
  • Range. The available 34-gallon tank with the Duramax diesel gives a GM-estimated highway range of more than 900 miles. That is GM testing, not an EPA rating.
  • Highway driving. Super Cruise can drive hands-free on compatible highways. Check the map for the routes you drive between El Paso, Las Cruces and Alamogordo.

What about off-road driving in the desert?

The Sierra AT4 adds a 2-inch factory lift, monotube shocks and 34-inch all-terrain tires. The AT4X goes further, with a standard Duramax diesel, 35-inch mud-terrain tires, front and rear electronic locking differentials and a new Baja drive mode that GMC designed for high-speed desert driving. GMC says no competitor in its class offers both front and rear e-locking differentials, based on its competitive data. Ford's off-road F-150s are the Tremor and the Raptor, and we're happy to put them next to each other with you.
