Buick in the Movies

Buick in the Movies - Casa Buick GMC Blog

Moviemakers love Buicks, as models from our premium car brand have appeared in almost every genre of film across the decades. From love stories to horror flicks, from gangster dramas to animated films for kids, we have indelible memories of Buick’s onscreen moments. Here are a handful of our favorites.

La La Land

La La Land (2016) opens with a Los Angeles highway traffic jam that sees Ryan Gosling’s Sebastian in a 1982 Buick Riviera, a car with loads of character in a sea of bland Toyota Priuses. The Riviera reflects the personality of its owner as Sebastian loudly honks its horn whenever he arrives to pick up Mia (Emma Stone), annoying her dull roommates and neighbors.

Rain Man

In the 1988 Oscar winner, Rain Man, Charlie Babbitt (Tom Cruise) sets out on a cross-country road trip with his brother, Raymond (Dustin Hoffman), who has autism, after their father passes away and leaves Charlie to inherit his 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible. It’s the first time the brothers have ever met each other, and the road trip allows them to get to know one another.

The Departed

Another Oscar-winning film that prominently features a Buick Roadmaster, is Martin Scorsese’s 2006 The Departed, a drama that focuses on the inner workings of a Boston crime syndicate. Throughout the movie, Jack Nicholson’s mob boss Frank Costello gets driven around in a maroon-colored 1994 Roadmaster. Buicks have made appearances in other gangster movies, such as The Road to Perdition (2002) and The Untouchables (1987).

Inside Llewyn Davis

Oscar Isaac plays a wandering folk singer in Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), and, for part of the film, he rides with two other musicians from New York City to Chicago in a 1961 Buick Electra 225. As Davis, a beat poet (Garret Hedlund), and a jazz musician (John Goodman) make their way, they argue and encounter obstacles in this dark Coen Brothers comedy.

Cars

In Pixar’s 2006 Cars, main villain Chick Hicks is modeled after a 1980s Buick Regal. They both feature strong, squared-off edges, a short trunk, an overall boxy appearance (and loads of character, naturally!)

Is Leasing a Buick or GMC Right for You?

Buick and GMC vehicles become more advanced year after year. Leasing allows you to drive a brand-new car or truck without the commitment of buying. This means you can easily exchange your vehicle for a newer model every two or three years, continually enjoying the latest features, tech, and specs. If this and the other following benefits appeal to you, visit us to find out your full Buick GMC leasing options. more Enjoy the Vehicle's Best Years If you lease a new car or truck, you keep it for the lease term (usually two or three years) and then return it to buy or lease your next vehicle. If you keep leasing repeatedly, you're always driving brand-new vehicles in their very best years of performance. Straightforward Trade-Ups It's super easy to return a leased vehicle when the lease term ends. You don't need to go through the hassle of trying to find a buyer. You also needn't worry about whether the value of your vehicle has risen or fallen. When the lease ends, you drive it back to the lot and simply lease the next one.
