Our Favorite El Paso Eats - Casa Buick Blog

Looking for a great place to grab a bite this holiday season? Luckily for us, El Paso is loaded with delicious options for food to keep you fueled for those last-minute shopping trips. Why go to a national chain when there are so many local, independent, or regional choices with a rustic vibe or home-spun charm to go along with a quick and appetizing meal? Casa Buick GMC has a list of such much-loved favorites certain to have your mouth watering.

The Charcoaler Drive In Restaurant is an authentic El Paso burger landmark known for its charcoal grilled (of course!) burgers and onion rings. This burger shack is conveniently located at 5837 North Mesa Street and boasts a traditional drive-in that brings you great food to the comfort of your car. The Charcoaler simply oozes 1950s rock ‘n’ roll cool. First-timers may try their original cheeseburger with their special hickory sauce, onions, and pickles. It’s not a high-end gourmet burger joint but a vintage, feel-good old El Paso classic! This drive-thru even has its own line of merch.

We’re in Texas so no list is complete without BBQ! Our local favorite is Desert Oak Barbecue. A more recent addition to the El Paso food scene, Desert Oak opened in 2015 and rapidly became a local favorite. What makes it special? As the name suggests, Desert Oak is fueled by oak sourced from central Texas, cooked with a steady heat, using only prime beef. The result is some of the best barbecue we’ve tasted and we think you’ll agree. You’ll find them on 1320 North Zaragosa.

Tony’s Burrito House & Mexican Food has excellent Mexican food at very good prices. This drive-thru at 1410 Vanderbilt Drive features food that tastes like it was made by your abuela. Really! Service is relaxed so the restaurant is better suited when you want a quick meal instead of fast food, but those extra few minutes are well worth the wait. Try the enchiladas with rice and beans. For heavenly, foodie aromas, the quaint dining room is the spot when you have a few extra minutes.

Family-owned and locally operated, Carnitas Queretaro has four locations for fresh and authentic Mexican cuisine to go. The small chain sources local products to create dishes developed from original Bordier family recipes. While it has served handcrafted dishes to El Paso for two decades, the family opened its first eatery in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico in 1985.
